ICE Adventures 2022

The final ICE adventure happened the last weekend in September at Lough Keel Scout Campsite over the border in Roscommon. 17 girls travel down for the weekend to complete the 3rd stage of the ICE experience. We were lucky with the weather and managed to stay dry.

The girls completed varieties outdoor challenges and even cooked their own dinner over some BBQs. The highlight for most of them was the Borg bora and completing the challenges to collect the crystals. They all managed to escape in time!

ICE stands for International Community Experience and is a 3 part progress. It started with a day event at Lorne back in March, the girls did some cooking, crafts, mini rafts and got to know all the other Guides from different units. The second part took place at Gosford Forest Park in May, where they spent the night in hammocks. They had to build their own shelter and sleep in it all night. Then the final one was a weekend in Roscommon to which they had to pack for themselves! No Kit list was given.

Through the course of their experiences the girls gained their Backwoods cooking, Night Under the Stars, Be prepared and Camp Skills Stage 5 badges and made friendships which hopefully last a lifetime.

Quotes from the Girls :

“I was the only one from my unit and I have made so many new friends”

“ I have really enjoyed my ICE experience especially sleeping in a hammock – I have never done that before”

“I can’t tell you my best bit – I loved it all, I have so many badges to sew on my campfire blanket and now I can go back and tell my unit what they have missed out on!!”

Keep an eye out for our save the dates!! Bookings will open in January.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE INTERNATIONAL ADVISORS TEAM FOR ORGANISING THIS EVENT!
